Hidden Treasures of Antioch, California: Empire Mine Road aka "gates of hell"

Shot taken from Empire Mine Rd in Antioch, CA Feb 2017
One of my family's favorite traditions, biking Empire Mine Rd. This shot was taken on a chilly but refreshing February morning here in beautiful Antioch, CA. Just taking a break to say hello to our little friends along the way. It turns out that back in 2005 this road was barricaded and closed off to traffic by Antioch city leaders, a road that legends say lead to the "gates of hell".
People have been said to hear weird creepy noises from the nearby slaughter house, one which is claimed to be haunted by an old man who still walks the ground. This is not to forget about the 'woman in white' who wanders the highway; regardless, because the road is cut off from traffic, it makes an excellent and most of all safe road to jog, bike, or to just get away for a breath of fresh air.

The next time you're on Golf Course Rd, drive down until you reach Mesa Ridge Rd, from there I will have to leave the secret up to you to discover, but get ready to be blown away. I have yet to discover all of Antioch's hidden treasures, but this has got to be one of my favorites, "Empire Mine Rd" aka "gates to hell".
